Our Journey…

4 people are visible across a long table, they are tearing up green herbs. They wear aprons. They sit opposite other people.

Founded by Bethany Sheldon and Kathryn Lowe in 2008, Maison Foo first came to national attention with our highly acclaimed sell out theatre show Memoirs Of A Biscuit Tin, at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It was named the ‘surprise hit of the festival’ by Lyn Gardner. We also took the show on an extensive UK tour through autumn 2011 and spring 2012 to further critical acclaim and sold out notices, including 5 recommendations in The Guardian’s Theatre guide and a top 5 listing in The Independent.

Our theatre work has been presented at numerous events, venues and festivals throughout the country including the South Bank’s Royal Festival Hall, Latitude festival, London International Puppetry Festival SUSPENSE, Edinburgh Festival, Birmingham mac and Birmingham Symphony Hall, Sheffield Crucible, Warwick arts centre and Walthamstow Garden Party for the Barbican.

My surprise hit of the festival...touching and beautifully crafted...deceptively sophisticated and layered work...a little show with a big heart.
— Lyn Gardner - The Guardian ****

During the preview tour of their show A Thing Mislaid in Autumn 2018, we became a Theatre Company of Sanctuary. We welcomed 120+ people seeking sanctuary through the doors of Theatres and Art Centres throughout the Midlands. And since, we have continued to connect and support displaced people through co-created collective acts of community celebration, both live and online during the pandemic.
